this refers to the /r/ sound a speaker may insert between two words when the first word ends in schwa or /):/ and the following word begins with a vowel sound.
use of this intrusive /r/ is frequent though by no means obligatory.
the only difference between linking and intrusive /r/ is that linking /r/ is reflected in the written form while intrusive /r/ isn't.
