in connected speech, the final spelling 'r' of a word, may be pronounced or not, depending on whether the first sound of the next word is a consonant or a vowel.
'r' is a linking /r/ when the second word starts with a vowel.
'r' isn't sounded when the folowing word is a consonant.
the term 'linking /r/' can be applied only when the letter 'r' occurs in the written form.
